IEBC: Kenyans Wishing to Change Polling Stations to Travel Home

Three days after IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati stated that Kenyans do not need to travel upcountry for voter registration details, he has reversed his position.

Chebukati stated on Twitter that voters who want to change their polling location must go to the IEBC Constituency Office.

"Clarification: Voters who want to change their polling location should go to the IEBC constituency office where they want to change. Mtaani iko IEBC. Sasa, Jiandikishe!" On Thursday, Chebukati stated.

Chebukati told MPs on Tuesday that the listing can be done at any of the 52 Huduma Centres across the country, reducing the burden of unnecessary travel.

"Voter transfers, on the other hand, would need to be approved at the constituency level," he explained.

The commissioner stated that the move was made to ensure that the returning officer had confirmed that the voter had moved to a new area and had remained in the constituency for six months.
