Oparanya Lectures Ruto's Ally From Western Region Over His Remarks Concerning Raila & His Bid

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has criticized Deputy President William Ruto's ally and Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali, over his sentiments concerning the former Prime minister Raila Odinga.

Speaking over the weekend in Mumias East, Washiali argued that Raila is an 'old man' who is currently unfit to lead the country, and should retire from politics and pave way for younger leaders to steer the country going forward.

This did not sit well with Oparanya who, according to a publication by the Star, slammed Washiali saying that Raila is the most experienced leader in the country, and nobody should paint his name negatively.

"Raila is only 77 years old and ready to lead the nation through the Azimio la Umoja brigade. I am his strong agent in this Western region, and I won't allow a few people to taint his name," said Oparanya.

The second term governor and ODM's deputy party leader urged leaders to ensure they maintain peace, and avoid making any utterances that might in one way or the other incite Kenyans ahead of the August polls.

"There will always be life after every elections. There is therefore, a need to maintain peace and be your brother’s keeper. We will need one another after the elections," added the former chairman of Council of Governors.
