Vocal UDA Senator has broken silence after Meru Governor, Kawira Mwangaza was impeached by Meru MCAs. The impeachment motion against Governor Kawira Mwagaza was tabled at the Assembly on Wednesday morning. 67 out of 69 Members of the County Assembly of Meru voted yes to the Impeachment Motion tabled by Hon. DMK Kiogora Member for Abogeta West and Minority Party Whip.
"Honourable members, I wish to declare that the Governor of Meru Hon. Bishop Kawira Mwangaza stands impeached by the Meru County Assembly," Speaker Ayub Bundi Solomon said. Within seven days, Speaker Amason Kingi is expected to convene the house for a sitting to hear Mwagaza's impeachment charges.
UDA Senator, Arap Cherargei has now stated that the Senate is obliged to listen to charges against Governor Kawira Mwangaza and decide whether to hold the impeachment or vote against it. He has further told Gov. Kawira that current Court cases filed on the impeachment cannot stop senators from deliberating on the impeachment motion.
"Hii tufanyaje wadau naoan MCAs hawachezi na mtu !!. Senate has ruled before that courts cases on impeachment cannot prevent Senate from deliberating on the matter. Gov. Mwangaza just prepare your defence sideshows won't help you for now !. Impeachment is a political process !." Nandi Senator, Aaron Cheruiyot's message to impeached Meru Governor.
He has therefore advised the impeached Meru Governor to prepare her defence very well and try to avoid sideshows which won't help her for now. He has further reinstated that impeachment is a political process which can't be stopped by a Court order. Governor Kawira Mwangaza is expected to prepare a strong Defence team which would represent her in Senate during the hearing of her impeachment.
