One who has been studying politics for a while will clearly tell you that the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) will not make it to the elections next year for many obvious reasons. The OKA principals continue to show indications that reveal they are not ready to head to the polls.
One of the principals Gideon Moi who is KANU boss seems not to be interested in the coalition. Mr Moi has been on record more than once saying that he is interested in working with Raila Odinga who is also keen on going for the presidency. The talks by Gideon Moi has created suspicion whether he is really interested in seeing the coalition succeed in next year’s elections. Every time the KANU chairman speaks it seems like he is more willing to work with Mr Odinga than his co-principals in OKA.
Another thing that might break the coalition before the elections is Mr Mudavadi’s strong stand that he has to be the flag bearer for the coalition. Mudavadi’s strong stand may have him leave the coalition in the event he is not made the flag bearer. As it is right now it seems like Mudavadi is the only committed member of the coalition. If he walks out, the coalition will die as other principles have shown that they do not want to approach the elections alone.
The former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka has indicated that he is ready to work with other people who are vying for the presidency. He cleared showed this when he invited Raila to the event where he launched his presidential bid.
Lastly, the OKA coalition has shown that they are likely to enter an agreement with the Mt Kenya leaders’ forum led by Martha Karua. All these indicate the coalition principals are not ready to go it alone.
