Waiguru said "he hopes Ruto will nominate his running mate from the Mount Kenya constituency because the constituency has the highest number of presidential votes.
The governor said that although Ruto had a special responsibility to select a running mate, he would be happy to do so.
"All I know is that the decision on who will be the co-candidate is William Ruto's decision. The only thing we expect is the question of where the co-candidate comes from. The debate is that the man is from the mountainous region of Kenya," Waiguru said.
He recalled that politics is the number one game UDA had hoped to win the 2022 election.
He said DP Ruto is best suited to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta as he understands well, the ongoing development is working.
Waiguru is one of the leaders whose names have been identified among the co-candidates for the presidency.
"I think it would be a great honor to be elected as a co-candidate for UDA, but right now all my efforts are to defend my Kirinyaga governorship," he added.
However, the governor said he would respect Ruto's choice of co-candidate.
Waiguru, who spoke during an interview with a radio station, said UDA had launched a number of deliberate initiatives to help bridge the gender gap in representation by encouraging more women to run for office.
The governor also said his decision to join the UDA was announced by Kirinyaga voters.
"The people of Kirinyaga said they were satisfied with the development work we had done, however they said they would not re-elect me unless I joined UDA," he said.
Waiguru added that UDA is the most popular political party in Mount Kenya and anyone who says otherwise is deceiving himself.
"I have listened to the arguments and it is clear that the party is UDA and their presidential candidate is William Ruto."
