Earlier before the main event, Vihiga County governor Dr. Wilber Otichilo confirmed that the aim of Hon. Raila Odinga touring Vihiga was to speak to the residents. He also revealed that Luanda town is the hub of politics in Vihiga and the town connects neighboring counties like Siaya, Kisumu, Busia and Nandi. The county governor was speaking to KTN News reporter Willis Lusige who was live at the event.
However, Vihiga County has been one of the strong holds for Hon. Raila Odinga. It's a residential place for ANC party leader Hon. Musalia Mudavadi who is also a member of One Kenya Alliance (OKA). During 2017 general election, Hon. Raila successfully gathered 181, 889 votes over Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta who got 18, 562 votes from Vihiga County.
