Opinion: Why UDA Will Gain Political Leverage In Machakos After Alfred Mutua Withdrawal

The Maendeleo chap Chap party leader Alfred Mutua who is the governor of Machakos today made a decision to withdraw his candidate from the senatorial by-election race scheduled on Thursday.

The competition will be between the Wiper party of former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party associated with the deputy president William Ruto.

Urbanus Ngengele who is the UDA candidate is a nonstarter who seem to have synched well with the Machakos residents.

Ngengele has pledged to represent the residents of Machakos in the senate on matters development besides oversighting the county government.

The former senator of Machakos county Johnson Muthama who is a UDA ally is backing Ngengele.

Agnes Kavindu the Wiper candidate is facing controversies just a few days to the race. Her academic credentials have been questioned in the high court a matter that has reduced her popularity.

The Maendeleo Chap Chap withdrawal from the race might force voters to incline towards the UDA candidate.
