Speaker Moses Wetangula to be replaced after the IEBC announced the Bungoma by election date

The Bungoma County Senator, Honorable Moses Wetangula, was named by the Kenya Kwanza Alliance fraternity as the next Speaker of the National Assembly after winning the campaign.

In the national assembly, Wetangula defeated his rival, the former National Assembly Speaker Honorable Kenneth Otiato Marende of the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance camp, to win the seat.

After then, Wetangula took the oath of office as Speaker of the National Assembly. Honorable Justine Muturi, who was appointed as Attorney General in Ruto's administration, was succeeded by Wetangula.

Moses Wetangula was forced to resign before applying for the position of the speaker of the National Assembly leaving his Senate position vacant.

Due to the vacancy in his former seat, Mr. Wafula Chebukati, head of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), has declared that Mr. Wetangula's former seat would be filled by a by-election, which will now take place on December 8, 2022.
