Belio Kipsang, the principal secretary for education, faces the prospect of going to jail over a Ksh83 million contract that was given out when he oversaw the state department for regional development.
Kipsang was found to have broken the contract by neglecting to pay the construction firm known as NK Brothers, according to a decision made by Justice Jairus Ngaa.
The firm has been awarded the contract for the Kisumu headquarters of the Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA).
Kipsang, however, requested more time from the court so he could work with his successor, Idris Dagota, to fulfill the financial obligation.
Kipsang was accused with contempt of court after being forced to appear in court by the construction business.
In a 2019 cabinet reshuffle, the PS was transferred to the Ministry of the East African Community (EAC), The ASALA, and Regional Development. He was one of the select handful PS that President William Ruto kept on the Education docket.
Kipsang has already gotten started in the ministry, and his first task is to supervise the Grade 6, Class 8, and Form 4 national exams.
