Popular Mt Kenya preacher Bishop David Kariuki Ngari, popularly known as Gakuyo, has again waded into the 2022 presidential contest naming his preferred candidate.
Late last year, the presiding Bishop of the Thika-based Calvary Chosen Centre prophesied that Deputy President William Ruto, who is being touted as the frontrunner in the 2022 contest, will not be the successor of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The founder of the troubled Ekeza Sacco and Gakuyo Real Estate said Ruto will first become the opposition leader for a decade before he takes the top seat.
He said just like his predecessors, there is no way the DP will win the presidency in his first attempt during the 2022 general election.

"I want to tell the DP, do not skip one class. It is a must for you to be an opposition leader before you become the president. You have to be an opposition leader for 10 years. The seat that Baba (Raila) has been part of, you should now take it," Gakuyo said.
The controversial Bishop, who is a fierce defender of the handshake between President Kenyatta and Raila Odinga, has now thrown his weight behind National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi's presidential bid.

Gakuyo made the declaration when he led a meeting between Muturi and over 1,500 members of Calvary Covenant Clergy Alliance at the Kingdom Retreat Centre in Kabati, Murang'a.
The Bishop further hit out at Mt Kenya leaders in Tangatanga who have been advancing Ruto's hustler nation narrative in the region saying they were just self seekers.

Bishop Mugekenyi of Limuru's Calvary said the clergy will continue supporting Muturi since they believed he was the right person to take the country forward.
"You are the product of many years of prayer. Be encouraged in the journey you have embarked on. The far that you have come and the decisions you are making are well informed," Mugekenyi said.
