"Double Speak?" What Raila Said About Manual Register In 2016 Versus What He's Saying In 2022

Ahead of the general elections, statements have been escalating about the kind of register that is set to be used in the elections. The discussion has been based around the comparison between the manual register and the digital register that is used by voters to vote their preferred candidates. However, one of the prominent politicians who has been fronting the discussion about the kind of register to be used is Raila.

The Azimio presidencial candidate has made different statements about the use of the manual register both in 2016 and in 2022. This has made the popular local daily in the social media to compare the statements made by Raila in 2016 and in 2022, about the manual register. In 2016, Raila advocated for the use of electronic transformation of results claiming that most of the countries have already adopted the digital methods of transmission of results.

In 2022 and in the recent political rally, he's advocating for use of a manual register claiming that it is compulsory and if it doesn't happen, there will be no election.

"Many countries have used biometric registration, electronic identification and electronic transmission successful without reverting to manual. "Raila said in 2016. However, in the recent past, the former Prime Minister has made the following statement in controversial what he had previously said, "We are telling the IEBC they must use a manual register along with the biometric identification of voters on that day. Failure to which there will be no election".
