As the country strides towards the eagerly awaited August 2022 general elections,it is with no doubt that the presidential race is turning to be a two-horse one.The two leading title contenders are seemingly Deputy President William Ruto and ODM party leader Raila Amolo Odinga.
Reliable sources have confirmed that initially, Ruto's camp was highly optimistic that their master would smoothly sail through to State House come August next year. With Raila's thunderous entry and his new forrays into the political matrix, things have allegedly changed with Ruto's squad employing other possible avenues to seal the loopholes.
A source at the DP's close quarters has opened up by alluding that their focus is on One Kenya Alliance. They said should OKA join Raila and the handshake team,Ruto may have a run for his money. In view of the above, behind-the-scenes wooing of some OKA chiefs into the Hustlers' camp has immensley taken shape.
The source has affirmed and confirmed that already one Principal of the OKA outfit has already given in and may soon join Ruto's bandwagon. The team would soon reach to a second OKA chief whom they said may also follow suit. However,it remains unclear on whom the two principals could be as OKA outfit brings together Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka of Wiper, Musalia Mudavadi of ANC, Moses Wetangula of Ford Kenya and Gideon Moi of KANU.
OKA outfit poses a great threat to both Ruto and Raila's presidential bids with both camps keen to have it on their folds. There have been fruitless calls by President Uhuru Kenyatta to have the OKA team work with Raila Odinga and support his presidential bid ahead of the 2022 polls.
In a similar twist of events and situations,it has emerged that DP Ruto and Uhuru's close operatives have secretly signed a pre-election deal that would see Uhuru having a hand in naming some of the cabinet members in Ruto's regime should the latter win.
This new development comes at the backdrop of allegations by a section by clergy that there are behind-the-curtain talks that are well progressing to broker a truce between Uhuru and his second in Command.
These new developments pose great threats to Raila's fifth stab at the presidency as it has been highly believed that the Head of State would endorse and back the opposition supremo. The similar allegations on some OKA Chiefs deserting Raila for Ruto is another betrayal that could unwork Raila's traditional vote basket ahead of 2022.
But as these may be the case, who is fooling who in all these developments?
