Tough Times Ahead For Kalonzo as IEBC Reveals Condition To Clear Him For Presidency


Tough times ahead for Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and team Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) reveals circumstances under which they will clear the former vice president to contest for the presidency.

As source states, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) intends to stick to what is provided in Section 23 of the Elections Act on qualifications and disqualifications for nomination as President when it clears presidential candidates and other eyeing elective seats on May 30.

According to IEBC communication, if someone challenges the Wiper candidate Kalonzo Musyoka’s candidature after the clearance, the commission will establish the IEBC Disputes Resolution Committee to look into the matter, a move like to stop him from contesting in August, 9 elections alongside Deputy President William Ruto and Azimio- One Kenya candidate Raila Odinga.

"At the point of registration of a presidential candidate, the returning officer is guided by the prescriptions in section 23 of the Elections Act and should not import qualifications or disqualifications not provided under the statute,” Said IEBC official.


The Wiper leader walked out of Azimio- One Kenya coalition after Martha Karua was picked to deputise Mr Raila Odinga in August poll and decided to join the race. He is deputised by Andrew Leteipa Sunkuli.
