He faulted Kenyan government for failing to capitalise on the booming trade of marijuana owing to the fact that the crop has been stigmatised in most African society. He reiterated that by commercialising the crop will increase the country’s economy if marijuana cultivation is prioritised by the next government owing to the plants medicinal benefits.

While in an interview on channel 46 said: “Bhang should also be grown here just like in America. Even in Jamaica bhang is cultivated and sold. Our job will be to grow it and sell it to those who use it.”

According to him, such ventures will gain the country additional capital.

He said that bhang is bad don’t see any problem with it admitting that his son uses it.

“The white settlers came here and said that bhang is bad but I don’t see any problem with it. I don’t smoke bhang personally but my son does and I can’t just disown him for that when others are over-indulging in illicit brews,” he added.

In 2018, The late Ken Okoth had written to the National Assembly speaker Justin Muturi petitioning for the legalisation and regulation of marijuana to ensure its safe usage.

According to Okoth, the proposed bill was to ensure that there is regulation for growth and safe usage of marijuana and hemp including the registration of growers , producers, manufacturers and users with special focus on protection of children/minors from illicit use just like tobacco and alcohol.
