President Jimmy Carter leads in the campaign Against Neglected Tropical Diseases

This year marks president's Jimmy Carter 40years since he left USA presidential office in 1982 and it concurs with his 98th Birthday.May Almighty God above give him strength to keep fighting. He has been a global figure in fighting the Neglected Tropical Diseases both in Asia and Africa.Such an inspiration to be emulated.

Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) comprise several diseases that have a range of effects, from extreme pain to permanent disability to death.


Some of examples of the Neglected Tropical Diseases in Jimmy Carter's programme includes:


Dracunculiasis (guinea worm).

Trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness).

Leishmaniasis.

Leprosy (Hansen's Disease).

Lymphatic filariasis (elephantiasis).

Onchocerciasis (river blindnesses).

Schistosomiasis.

Trachoma (Chlamydia trachomatis).

These diseases also refer to as poverty diseases.

Prevention and control of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs);

Sanitation is the key to these diseases, to prevent transmission through human waste.

Use of mosquito nets over the bed.

Application of insecticides.

Draining the wetlands to reduce populations of insects and others vectors.

Use of treated water or water filtration to produce drinking water free of parasites.

Use of vaccines to promote disease immunity and others.
