IG Nominee Koome To Face Senate And National Assembly Committee For Vetting Next Week Netizens React

The candidate for Inspector General of Police (IG), Eng. Japheth Koome Nchebere, is due to appear before a screening committee on Tuesday, November 8, to discuss his eligibility for the position.

The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Affairs and the Senate Standing Committee on National Security, Defense, and Foreign Affairs will both hear testimony from Eng. Koome in the Parliament buildings.

The Speaker of the National Assembly must commit the name to the Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Affairs before the matter can be brought before Parliament, according to Kingi.

The nomination will stand committed to the relevant Standing Committee for once the Speaker receives notice that it has been made for an appointment to a public position that must be authorized by the Senate in accordance with the constitution or any applicable legislation.

On August 26, 2022, Mutyambai took a medical leave of absence and named Noor Gabow to fill the vacancy.

Since Uhuru Kenyatta, a former president, appointed Mutyambai to the office in 2019, he has held it.
