Finally, another person has been given the plum position in the Ministry of Tourism that was meant for controversial blogger and socio-political commentator Pauline Njoroge. That replacement is Standard Media Group reporter Najma Ismail. This was announced by the Ministry of Tourism on its social media platforms.

Pauline Njoroge's name was dropped after a backlash over a social media post she made castigating efforts to protect the Nairobi National Park. Kenyans on online platforms have been quick to react to the development. Most of them welcomed the move to give the position to the career journalist. Here is a sample of what they had to say:

"Bravo!!! @Min_TourismKE For making such a bold step n statement!! We can't allow individuals who do not understand importance of Environmental conservation n Eco-Tourism of NNP to our national heritage to be part of it!!! INTEGRITY COMES FIRST!!!" Sarah Badi wrote on Twitter in a reply.

"If the appointment was done on merit where only candidates who have experience plus the best interests of our country's wildlife were considered, none of this would have happened. Lakini huku ni Kenya where we appoint novices to key posts that influence the fate of our wildlife, " Mzalendo wrote.

"Next time making appointments look at professionalism, interests and competence can you appoint someone who doesn't have/believe on your idea, policies.. How will he/she promote, safeguard them...???" Francis Muia wrote in a reply.

"Good decision here. Whenever we post anything on social media, we should be ready to live by the consequences of the post. One cannot condemn existence of our park and expect to serve in the broad that protects the same, " David Warutere opined.
