Candidates for public office should engage in debates so that voters can better understand them and the policies they stand for. Votes should also reflect an understanding of the country's issues and possibilities.
The media plays a crucial role in the success of any election and will be hosting a presidential discussion for 2022 as Kenyans prepare to vote in another round of general elections in just 47 days. The four presidential hopefuls who have received IEBC approval to run in August's elections will have a roundtable discussion. David Waihiga Mwaura of the Agano Party, Deputy Prime Minister William Ruto of the UDA in Kenya Kwanza, Professor George Wajackoya of the Roots Party, and Raila Odinga of the Azimio Party are the four candidates.
The 2022 presidential debate will take place in July at the Catholic University of East Africa, according to Benedict Omollo, director of the Presidential Debate Secretariat. Omollo has been purposely vague because the timing has not been officially published.
Omollo adds that the public must submit questions for the candidates via the Presidential Debate's website, Facebook, and Twitter accounts in the hours leading up to the debate. On the other hand, we will not keep in confidence the questions we send to the applicants in advance of the web chat.
