Hon Zedekiah Kiprop Bundotich alias Buzeki, a renowned mogul businessman, and also one of the hopeful gubernatorial aspirants in Uasin Gishu County ignited a hot debate online when he posted what he shall do to the farmers if elected in 2022 general election.(Courtesy photo)
According to his recent post, he said growing up at seasons like this, when maize were about to be harvested were joyous. He added that it also meant extra income for the families to prepare for Christmas celebrations, take care of school fees and purchase next year's farm inputs; nowadays such seasons are the beginning of agony for their farmers.
Perhaps, he stated that the suffering of farmers has become too routine to the extend of getting used to it. He explained that the same leaders that promised solutions years ago are still on promising spree. He lamented that the prices are likely to be all time low, and the farm inputs next time are heading to the all time high.(Courtesy photo)
He elaborated that this is the time that they must put their heads together. He said as they pursue national government to reopen cereals and offer subsidies let's not sit back and join in lamentations; let's try to do something.
He suggested that the county can lead in providing directions and cushioning the farmers instead of all of them crying for help. He said efforts should be made to work with farm inputs importers early enough to engage directly with farmers cooperative societies.
He then warned that if they are not careful next year they will be on the streets demanding for the subsidized fertilizers as their leaders are busy campaigning.
He hinted that they can explore possibility of leasing the storage facilities and help farmers store their maize as they wait for the prices to stabilize. He stressed that it is not enough to talk about farmers suffering but they also must act.
He said God willing next year, he will embark on elaborate programs to cushion their farmers through proper marketing, value addition and sourcing of farm inputs, and they can not make farmers cries a political fodder of all time.
He emphasized that the suffering of the farmers must be stopped. To those silently suffering, he said he thinks of them. He affirmed that he is ready and willing to attack that perennial problem once for all.
His post attracted several comments from Kenyans, majority of them applauded him for having good plans for the residents of Uasin Gishu County. They further urged him to continue with the same spirit and his political future shall be so luminous.
