How Wife Of Ex-MP Played Her Cards Well By Ditching Uhuru For Ruto

Naivasha MP Jayne Njeri Kihara can rightfully claim to he one of the most experienced politicians in the country today. With a political career spanning over two decades, the veteran legislator is also a shrewd operator.

Thrust into the political limelight in 2003 following the death of her husband, Paul Kihara, her career took off in style when she rode on a Narc wave to win the seat in a by-election.

Though she was defeated in 2007 by John Mututho and again in 2013, Kihara managed to bounce back in style in 2017 when she sent home the incumbent.

Riding on the Jubilee Party wave which had swept across the Rift Valley region at the time, there was no stopping Kihara who returned to Parliament after 10 years in the cold.

Ahead of the 2022 general election, she is one of the politicians who made bold step to rally behind William Ruto in his State House bid. By so doing, they defied former President Uhuru Kenyatta who was backing Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate, Raila Odinga.

Though Kihara faced a scare in the race for UDA party ticket, she managed to trounce her bitter rival by just one vote. And from there, it was never in doubt that she was going to clinch the seat without too much pressure.

Ditching Uhuru for Ruto would prove to be a political masterstroke for this veteran MP.
