Kenya just concluded the general election held on 9th August 2022. The electoral commission headed by Wafula Chebukati announced William Ruto as president-elect in the hotly contested election. Ruto won by 50.49%, defeating Raila, who got 48.85%. Raila has publicly rejected the election results and refused to concede.
Raila’s stand has attracted international attention, and now African leaders are requesting the African Union (AU) and the East African Community (EAC) to intervene so that Mr. Odinga concedes defeat. Julius Malema, a member of the National Assembly of South Africa and leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters party, has called upon Raila Amolo Odinga to concede defeat.
Malema and his party recognize Ruto as president-elect. And through his party, he suggests that Raila accept the results released by IEBC. The EFF leaders add that Raila and the Azimio family exercise curtailment during this period.
Malema went on and urged Kenyans to remain patriotic and stand for democracy. The South African legislator also called upon international bodies like AU and EAC to talk to Raila and Azimio at large and reason with them so that they accept the election outcome and prevent any acts of violence from their supporters.
