Mt Kenya Tycoons Indeed Powerful as Ruto Makes Major Admission Months to August

Deputy President William Ruto now seems to confirm that the Mt Kenya tycoons have previously determined who takes over as President during polls.

The camp brings together rich and influential figures from the Central Kenya region, rumoured to decide who rules the country during elections.

Ruto on Friday seemed to agree that their tricks have worked in the past, even as he said that himself and his allies will not let it happen "again".

Ruto also admitted that these people indeed call the shots in the economic sector, but stated that this will not be the excuse for them to decide the next leader.

He spoke while saying that the next President will be decided by Kenyans and not a few people sitting in hotels, in reference to the Mt Kenya Foundation's luncheons in hotels, especially the Safari Park Hotel.

“The coming polls will be a defining moment. There are a few people sitting in hotels and offices who think they will define the country’s future. Just because they have captured our economy, they shouldn’t think they will capture the country’s leadership again,” he said in Rongai, Nakuru, as is reported by the Saturday Standard.

The tycoons have made it public that they want ODM leader Raila Odinga as the next President, to the anger of Ruto, who also wants the seat.

He said that Raila has been tested and failed, after failing to use his short stay in govenment since 2018 to better the situation for Kenyans, and has no business being elected president.

“We are united to rescue the country from those who have taken it hostage. We initiated development projects but the moment we touched on the Big Four agenda, they frustrated it. They want to maintain a high level of poverty for them to remain in leadership,” the DP is further quoted.

Interestingly, he is seen as among the beneficiaries of the Mt Kenya Foundation's 2017 activities, including a luncheon that raised over Sh1 billion within two hours for President Uhuru Kenyatta's campaigns.
