How Ruto allegedly made Rigathi and Musalia feel at ease, Senior Lecturer alleges

The entrance of Musalia Mudavadi into President William Ruto's camp earlier this year did not sit well with then-Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, the current vice president, who believed that the role of running mate was designated for the Mt Kenya Region.

After the elections, Ruto made a point of clearly defining the roles of Gachagua as the DP and Musalia as the Prime Cabinet Secretary. Political experts deem this move to have been successful because, had it not been, we would currently be witnessing a struggle for supremacy between the two.

Masibo Lumala, a senior lecturer at Moi University and a political and communication expert, claims that Ruto has been effective in making Gachagua and Musalia feel at ease in the Kenya Kwanza Government by allowing each of them room and creating the impression that he is listening to them.

"Gachagua and Mudavadi are both employed by the same government agency as Dr. Ruto. Although the President has already been able to resolve their issues, it is still too early to draw any firm conclusions from our limited observation of the two together and the two leaders with the President separately."

In the most recent instance, Gachagua was left in charge of the country while Musalia traveled with Ruto to the US. Among his major accomplishments was the establishment of direct flights between Nairobi and Dubai as well as Nairobi-Kakamega.
