The office of the Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service has issued a statement in response to the planned rally that will be held by Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition party leader Raila Odinga and his team on the seventh of December 2022. The rally is scheduled to take place tomorrow.
The police have confirmed that the rally will proceed as planned and that they will provide security in accordance with the requirements in a statement that was released on the 6th of December, 2022 and was signed by the deputy Inspector General Noor Gabow.
The IG made the observation that the right to demonstrate, gather, and even hold public rallies is protected by the constitution; consequently, Raila and the team cannot be prevented from holding such events.
On the other hand, the police have issued a solemn warning to those who will be attending the rally, stating that if they disrupt the peace then they will be held accountable by the legal system.
A portion of the statement read, "In this regard, the National Police Service will adequate security for the planned rallies, and we call upon all members inattendance to maintained peace. Nevertheless, any breach of peace shall be death with in accordance with the law."
