Reports have now emerged that a group of political pundits and opinion shapers from Nyeri town are planning to replace outspoken Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu with a Woman legislator in the upcoming 2022 general elections. Further details indicate that this group of political observers are planning to introduce vocal Nyeri County Deputy Governor Dr Caroline Karugu to the parliamentary race to battle it out with the first-term legislator.
One of the local and credible news publisher operating from Nyeri town now reports that the opinion shapers have already approached the DP and are at an advanced stage of persuading her to take the challenge and send Ngunjiri home in 2022."Nyeri opinion leaders are persuading Nyeri Deputy Governor Carol Karugu to vie for the Nyeri Town parliamentary seat ahead of the 2022 general elections," Othaya Global News reported on Saturday.
Dr Caroline Karugu first appeared in the political scenes in 2018 after she was appointed by Governor Mutahi Kahiga who had risen to office following the demise of the elected governor. She hails from Nyaribo area just a few kilometres from the town and has spent most of her early life and education within Nyeri Town and these are some of the reasons that might have made her perceived the most suitable candidate. In the event that this plan succeeds, Dr Karugu will give Ngunjiri a run for his money due to her popularity in the county and the huge following she enjoys in the area.
On his part, Ngunjiri has tried to do his best in performing his duties as a lawmaker but has so much concentrated on National politics and is now one of the key leaders of the famous Kieleweke faction which is strongly against Deputy President William Ruto's presidential bid. This has led to the division of the Mt Kenya region whenever anything to do with the upcoming Presidential race is mentioned.
