The European Union through a press statement on their social media platforms has reacted on the just concluded Kenyan election as well as the Independent Electoral Electoral and Boundaries Commission declaring William Ruto as the President-elect.
The European Union commended Kenyans for maintaining peace as well as remaining calm during the election day on 9th August when they expressed their choice in all six elective posts including the presidency.
The European Union also said that they take note of the IEBC results where Dr. William Samoei Ruto was declared the winner as well as the decision of Raila Odinga to reject the election results and appeal them.
The EU further stated any concerns about the election results must be addressed through the proper legal mechanism. They also urged societal leaders to avoid any violence and stay calm. The European Union also said that it looks to work together and develop further with the Kenyan leadership and build further on the EU Kenya Strategic Dialogue that began in June 2021.
Meanwhile, the ODM leader on Tuesday rejected the election results saying that there was massive rigging. They are intending to head to the Supreme Court of Kenya. All attention will now focus on the Supreme Court to see what decision will be made.
