Cherargei said members of Ruto’s Tangatanga team want ODM leader Raila Odinga to be in the presidential race to see if he can beat the DP.
Cherargei said Ruto’s supporters will be disappointed if the former Prime Minister does not go for the country’s top seat come 2022 elections.
Even though Raila has not publicly declared his interest to vie for presidency, the senator said Raila will be the best candidate to challenge Ruto unlike other leaders who have said they want to be president.
“For those who support Deputy President William Ruto, our candidate is known, we are ready and we know our worthy opponent. If Raila Odinga doesn’t run it will be a disappointment to most of us. We would relish going into a contest with Raila because he is a worthy opponent,” said Cherargei.
Cherargei who was speaking during an interview with KTN further hit out at four leaders who have hinted at forming an alliance ahead of the 2022 elections.
Senator Cherargei claimed that the four leaders, Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Moses Wetang'ula (Ford Kenya) and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi are being used to block Raila.
He termed their alliance as “Cerelac Coalition” saying their formation is a move meant to block Raila from receiving President Uhuru Kenyatta’s endorsement come 2022.
According to the senator, supporters of Raila knew he had a clear path to presidency until the four leaders showed up.
“It is unfortunate that the celerac coalition is being used to lock out Raila Odinga in this succession matrix. In 2018 when handshake happened, there was excitement in ODM and supporters of Raila knew the path to presidency was very clear,” said Cherargei.
