Mike Gitonga, a veteran journalist and former KTN news journalist, has been appointed the new Secretary of State, formerly known as the Government Spokesperson.
Gitonga was appointed to this position by President William Ruto. Until his appointment, he served as communications director for the Office of the First Lady. A grateful Gitonga expressed her gratitude to President Ruto for the new opportunity to serve in his government.
"With a new year coming with new beginnings, first and foremost, I am grateful to God. I also take this opportunity to thank the President of Kenya, @WilliamsRuto, for the opportunity to serve this country as Secretary of State,"
He also thanked the First Lady, Mama Rachel Ruto, and her office.
"I am indebted to First Lady @MamaRachelRuto. Your leadership and guidance are invaluable. I will work to the best of my ability to fulfill the responsibilities of this role, so God help me," he wrote.
Previously, the position of Secretary of State (government spokesperson) was held by Rtd Col. Cyrus Oguna. As Secretary of State, Gitonga will ensure efficiency, quality control, and harmonization of messages in government communications.
He will also be responsible for overseeing partnerships and collaboration with government information creators and consumers, including the media.
Previously, Gitonga worked with Radio 316 before joining KTN, where he served for many years before joining the Office of the First Lady.
