It is on the public domain that Uhuru Kenyatta is living the last months of his ten-year tenure. When his term ends, he will fold his political mats and exit the stage. Who will take the power baton from him? That time will tell.
Of the presidential contenders who have watermarked themselves as the frontrunners is ex-PM Raila Odinga and DP William Ruto. The duo are political titans with unparalleled experience, influence, networks and maverick planning skills.
The two are staking in Mt Kenya support and whoever outshines the other in climbing and conquering the mountain, 2022 Statehouse race will be his to lose. Recent poll statistics conducted by Radio Africa Group shows that the man from Sugoi stands a chance with over 55% rating followed by Agwambo who stands at 11%.
Speaking on Sunday, outgoing Machakos county governor Alfred Mutua sent a not-so-good message to Jakom and Samoei. The self-styled governor affirmed that he is currently the most popular and influential presidential candidate in Mt Kenya region and those claiming to be mantelpiece bearers are but living a lie.
Mutua is looking forward to fire his first presidential shot and though his competitors have hit the campaign trail running, Chama Cha Mashinani is buying time after which he will a political surprise.
Assuming Mutua's revelation is but a true depiction of his fame in Mt Kenya, then for Agwambo and William will be in for a rude shock. With the country hurtling towards 2022 elections, he will win he who bags Mt Kenya support.
