Just In: Raila Odinga Postpones Planned Protests in Solidarity With 4 IEBC Commissioners.

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party planned meetings and rallies to protest Justice and Legal Affairs (JLAC) hearing for 4 IEBC Commissioners has been postponed to December 7th 2022. The four are IEBC Vice Chairperson Juliana Cherera, commissioners Irine Masit, Justus Nyangaya, and Francis Wanderi.

According to a statement by the National Assembly Minority Leader Hon Opiyo Wandayi, the planned protests were postponed to the later date due to ongoing national exams that started yesterday 28th November 2022.

Raila over the weekend announced a plan for nationwide rallies to protest the bid to remove from office the four commissioners. He said the rallies will act as consultative meetings, on the plight of the commissioners. Raila Odinga argues the process to remove the quartet is politically motivated and is machinations by President William Ruto to hold the electoral body hostage ahead of the 2027 polls.

Addressing members of the press on Sunday, November 27, he said the consultative rallies will offer the public a platform to express their views on four petitions seeking the removal of the four commissioners from office over their conduct during the August general election.

However, President William Ruto has since warned the Azimio leader Raila Odinga against holding nationwide rallies to protest the plan to kick out four IEBC commissioners who rejected the August presidential election results.
