The sound of the name Michael Kijana Wamalwa rings a bell in your mind as the only Luhya leader who managed to unite the Luhya community to vote as a block in 2002 general election in support of Mwai Kibaki .
He was a leader who was endowed with good comminication skill which endeared him to his people. He was a great son of Mulembe Nation.
He was loved by all and sundry as he had the people's needs at heart. He spoke fluently on issues affecting people of Western Kenya and Kenya at large. His main interest was to see a country where equal opportunities for all.He was a peace maker. He was the pillar in NARC coalition and always wanted unity among leavers. Since the passing on of this great son no leader has been able to fit in his shoes in Western Kenya thus living the community to the highest bidder.Perhaps his greatest undoing was that he did not mentor any leader to take the mantle from him.
Musalia Mudavadi the son of famous Mudamba tried in 2007 as a member of pentagon to bring the community together but he was not able to bring all votes in one basket, because of the supremacy battle between the Maragoli's and Predominant Bukusu's
In 2013 when Hon Mudavadi made a stab at presidency he could not bring them to vote as a block since majority of votes went to Raila Amollo Odinga .With the rise of new Alliance One Kenya Alliance will where Mudavadi is a key player together with Moses Wetangula from predominant Bukusu will he manage It's a matter of wait and see.
