Interior cabinet secretary Dr Fred Matiangi has announced Monday 29th August as a public holiday in Mombasa and Kakamega counties and other areas where elections are set to be held on Monday.

Matiangi has also asked employees to release their employers during that day to enable them exercise their democratic rights.He clarrified that the constitution bars anyone from preventing citizens their right to vote.
Matiangi declaration comes barely three days after three petitioner moved to court to compel the government to declare 29th August as holiday to allow citizens to vote.
The elections were posponed in these areas were postponed by the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission after some cases had developed including intimidation of officials of the commission.
This is the first time Matiangi was addressing a press since the August 9th general election was concluded.Matiangi further urged Kenyans to be calm and maintain peace to ensurr a continued stability in the country.
