ODM Presidential aspirant Raila Odinga takes his Azimio La Umoja campaign to Ihura Stadium in Murang'a.
Murang'a is the bastion of the legendary second liberation hero and former Kiharu MP the late Kenneth Matiba. Just like Matiba, Raila was also arrested at the course of the fight for multipartysm in Kenya.
Kenneth contested for Presidency in 2013, but lost to Uhuru Kenyatta. In 2017, he contested for Nairobi gubernatorial seat but lost to Mike Sonko.
Murang'a MPs who want Peter Kenneth as Raila's running mate are: Muturi Kigano (Kangema), Wangari Mwaniki (Kigumo), Mary Wamaua (Maragua), Nduati Ngugi (Gatanga) and Peter Kimari (Mathioya).
Interesting times ahead as Kieni MP Kanini Kega and Murang'a women representative Sabina Chege are also battling for the Frontline in the Azimio bench.
Murang'a is among the Central region that has never produced a President. In 1992, Kenneth Matiba came close to becoming one after narrowly losing to Moi.
