The political atmosphere in the country is totally different as the government prepares for BBI Campaigns and 2022 general elections. There are only two horses and several donkeys who are yet to tell their stand in the forthcoming general elections. Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto are the two horses who might contest for presidency in 2022 with ODM Leader remaining with a single bullet to dwell in the statehouse.
With only a year left, both the horses have been holding different gatherings with DP Ruto selling the Hustler narrative while ODM Leader Raila Odinga selling the Building Bridges Initiative which is meant to bring about a referendum that will see the current Kenyan constitution being changed.
As Raila has been touring places to preach about the gospel of the BBI, most of the crowd have been heard chanting the name of Deputy President William Ruto. Most recently is when he was addressing mourners n Kisii where Simba Arati and Osoro exchanged blows. The other incident is when Raila visited Githurai to sell the BBI.
Being an opposition leader, Raila was expected to be the voice of the people whenever the government plays dirty. Since he joined the handshake, ODM Leader is reportedly to have been keeping quiet as common Mwananchi sufferers. In previous demolitions in Kibra, most of the people wanted him to utter a word but he was nowhere to be seen. He is in the government and therefore has no all that it takes to defend common mwananchi.
On the other hand, DP Ruto has been preaching a narrative of the hustlers, a narrative that he believes all Kenyans, both poor and rich will have something to put on the table for satisfaction. The hustler narrative has made a number of Citizens to support him hence chanting his name wherever he or Raila pays a visit.
Meru residents where also chanting the same, see the video here https://youtu.be/qzCmLjPPGBY
