Fear, Suspense as Powerful Kano Emir is Reported Dead

On Wednesday, September 22, the Daily Trust published a distressing article claiming that Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulkadir, the Emir of Gaya in Kano state, had died.

Abdulkadir died on Wednesday, according to a source who did not want to be identified.

Muhd Mukhtarr Danfillo, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje's senior special assistant, also announced the news on social media, via Facebook.

“As announced by Abubakar Aminu Ibrahim, the SSA on New Media to the Governor of Kano State, our Amir, the Emir of Gaya Emirate, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Abdulkadir is dead," a presidential media adviser, Bashir Ahmad, told Punch.

The Emir was a brilliant leader who had been on the throne for more than 30 years, having been born in 1930, 91 years earlier.

“May Allah (SWT) recognize his good actions and grant him Jannah Al-Firdaus, as well as grant his family and the Gaya Emirate the strength to suffer this enormous loss. Ameen!”

Gaya is one of Kano's five emirates. Before being raised to Emir in 2019, the dead was the district head of Kunchi and later Minjibir.
