The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has released a list of candidates, including Independent and party nominees, who have been given the go- ahead to run in the Bungoma Senate race.
Surprisingly, the list does not include Wafula Wamunyinyi, the party leader of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya and former CS Eugene Wamalwa' s closest ally. This indicates that the former Kanduyi Member of Parliament has retreated and withdrew from the race, allowing another candidate from a different party to win.
Wamalwa, who has been campaigning alongside Wamunyinyi for a few weeks, is disappointed by the decision. Wamalwa rallied support for Wamunyinyi while on the campaign road by saying they are unafraid of any wave.
In the majority of his campaign rallies, Wamalwa would declare that he will use the by- elections to firmly establish his rule in Bungoma because it " belongs to no one. " Unfortunately, the team had to abandon the race in the end over fear of being badly defeated.
According to other sources, Kipchumba Murkomen, the cabinet secretary for the ministry of transport, met with a high- profile delegation on Friday at his Transcom office in Nairobi. CS Kipchumba Murkomen claimed in a lengthy statement that he met with His Excellency Arnaud Suquet, the French ambassador to Kenya.
The two teams talked about a number of issues that would benefit both Kenya and France. In his remark, CS Kipchumba Murkomen acknowledged France' s contribution to Kenya' s infrastructure development. He reaffirmed that Kenya looks forward to maintaining the already wonderful partnership with France in a number of sectors, particularly in the development of infrastructure.
" I recognise the immense contribution that the French Government has made in the development and modernisation of Kenya' s infrastructure and look forward to deeper collaboration and partnership in the sectors of roads and transport, " part of his statement read. Therefore, it is clear that CS Murkomen will endeavor to protect Kenyans' interests under the administration of President William Samoei Arap Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua.
