Huge Setback to Cherera and Other IEBC Commissioners as Supreme Court Delivers Ruling Against Them

Four Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commissioners led by Juliana Cherera have suffered an early blow after the Supreme Court of Kenya judges struck out their law firm that was to represent them at the Supreme Court to defend their petition.

In a statement that was read by Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu, the Supreme Court struck out the appointment of Issa and Co Advocates, a legal firm that was to represent them.

The Supreme Court further went ahead and threw the commission into confusion after it ruled that the Supreme Court has no power to address their internal disputes.

The Supreme Court insisted that their internal disputes must be addressed by the commissioners themselves. The court further stated that it will not be drawn into the dispute.

The Supreme Court later urged the four IEBC commissioners to utilize the services of Paul Mwite services if they deem them necessary.

This comes after IEBC lawyer former Attorney General Githu Muigai claimed earlier in the day that the four IEBC commissioners cannot represent the IEBC by hiring lawyers contrary to procurement procedures as stipulated in the constitution.
