Tanzania Standard Newspaper has apologized for an advertisement published Mourning the death of President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
The newspaper clarified in their apology that it was a mistake on their part, that they were supposed to be a congratulatory message.
Tanzanian State Mining Corporation had requested for an advert placement in the said newspaper congratulating President Suluhu and another one for mourning the late president Magufuli.
The government agency had requested for 1/4 page space coloured in the Daily Newspaper to publish on 25th March condolences and another 1/4 page to publish on 29th March congratulations to the new president.
For such a sensitive advertisement, one wonders how it escaped the eyes of the newspaper editors unnoticed. This is a mistake that can lead to a newspaper's licence to be revoked by the state.
Tanzania lost their president John Pombe Magufuli and he was buried last week while President Samia Suluhu was sworn in last week to finish the reminder of the second term of the deceased.
