Details Leaks of What Uhuru Has Been Doing in State House For Preparation on Who Will Be President

Azimio La Umoja Raila Odinga, the presidential candidate for the One Kenya alliance, and his wife Ida have been frequent visitors to State House for the majority of President Uhuru Kenyatta's second time in office.

In addition, the pair has frequently attended high-level official events sponsored by the president and attended by other heads of state and diplomats.

Uhuru welcomed Raila and Ida to a state luncheon on June 1, immediately following the Madaraka Day celebration, where they met visiting Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio and First Lady Fatima Maada Bio.

Uhuru re-invited Raila to the state house on June 16 to meet with Zambian president Haikande Hichelima, who was in the nation for a two-day state visit.

Raila had similar discussions with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni at the Entebbe State House less than a month before meeting with the Zambian leader.

Raila also met with South Sudanese President Salva Kiir for peace and reconciliation discussions.

Raila and Ida were among the leaders who were invited to State House to meet President Samia Suluhu when she visited Kenya in May 2021. He would then travel to Tanzania for additional discussions with Suluhu.

Raila greeted Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye at Kisumu International Airport on May 31, 2021, when he arrived for a two-day state visit.

The privilege of receiving a visiting head of state is often reserved for high-ranking government officials with the titles of president, vice president, or minister. Not a member of the opposition's leadership.

According to Herman Manyora, President Uhuru Kenyatta has clearly shown he wants Raila Odinga to occupy State House.

In addition, Uhuru has invited and visited the Odinga family for private engagements, which commentators believe is a strong sign of who the president intends to inhabit the state residence once he leaves office.
