Meet The Governor Who Has Never Been Defeated In 30 Years Until A Woman Took Him Down

Politics is a tough game that needs resilience and persistence to succeed. This is because of the many challenges that come with being a politician. If one is light hearted, he/she can easily be heartbroken and can lead to mental problems. Some people are however experts in the game and have manged to stay in it for decades. One such person is Kiraitu Murungi who has been in politics for 30 years unopposed.

The outgoing governor has however for the first time in 30 years been defeated. Murungi who was defending his gubernatorial seat for the second and last time lost to Faith Kawira Mwangaza who was the woman representative for Meru. Mwangaza was an independent candidate and manged to get 209,158 votes while Murungi got 110,850 of the total votes cast.

Kiraitu Murungi was vying through his Devolution Empowerment Party (DEP). Mwangaza has now won an elective seat twice as an independent candidate. The outgoing governor was first elected as an MP in 1992 a seat he defended up to 2013 when he was elected as the senator for Meru. In 2017 he won the gubernatorial seat which he has held to date.
