The power transfer ceremony for the swearing in of Ahmed Mukhtar who is the deputy is underway in Wajir.
This comes just a day after the governor was impeached by 25 senators after the recommendation of a seven member senate committee.
Kenyans on Twitter welcomed the impeachment move citing that all corrupt governors should be impeached.
Ahmed who served as a deputy governor since 2017 will be deputised by Ughas Sheikh for the remaining period until the 2022 general polls.
It is not yet clear if the embattled governor will still go ahead with his appeal case now that the deputy governor is due to take over the instrument of power.
We will keep following this story for more updates especially the planned court petition by the embattled governor.
