Over the past few hours, there have been reports that Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader and Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua is seeking the Mwala parliamentary seat.

An electoral commission filing listed Mutua in the Mwala parliamentary race.
However, the governor has denied claims that he will be seeking an elective seat in the forthcoming August 9 General Election.
He stated "For avoidance of doubt, I wish to clarify that at this particular time, I am not running for any elective position in the forthcoming elections. I am concentrating on campaigning for the Kenya Kwanza coalition so that Kenya can get a new system where dreams can come true,"

This comes after Mutua ditched the Azimio la Umoja coalition party and joined the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
He noted that the Azimio la Umoja only favoured some political parties, leaving others like MCC in the dark.
The governor had initially moved to court to compel the Azimio faction to furnish him with the coalition agreement.
