End Of An Era For The Wife Of Ex-Kisumu MP After Ditching Raila For Ruto?

Rose Nyamunga, a one-time ally of the Azimio la Umoja coalition leader Raila Odinga, has made a surprise move by dumping the former Prime Minister for President William Ruto.

On Monday, as the Head of State played host to a group of Luo Nyanza region politicians at State House, Nyamunga was among those in attendance.

The name Nyamunga is very famous in Kisumu politics. Eric Nyamunga had served as Nyando MP for one term until 2007 when he was ousted by Fred Outa.

In 2013, his wife, Rose, while running on an ODM party ticket, won the Kisumu Women Representative position. She would go on to become a key member of the Raila inner circle.

During the 2017 poll, she ran for re-election but lost to Rosa Buyu. But being close to Raila at the time, she was nominated to the Senate.

In 2022, she ran for the Kisumu County Senator position but lost to Prof. Tom Ojienda during the ODM party primaries. Nonetheless, she remained very close to Raila with a hope that Azimio would have formed government. But it was not to be as Dr Ruto pulled a shocker to deny the ODM chief the presidency at his fifth time of asking.

Soon after Dr Ruto was sworn-in, Nyamunga gravitated to the Kenya Kwanza axis. And after months of playing it safe, she boldly ditched Raila for Ruto during the Monday State House meeting.

After this development, with Raila still the Nyanza region political kingpin, is this the end of the road for Nyamunga?
