Damaris Wambui Photo/CourtesyNakuru widow identified as Damaris Wambui turned down a gift which was given to her by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Back in 2014 during the Kenya Defence Force (KDF) celebration, Wambui's son Denis Ngaruya recited a poem for the President which left him laughing so loud.After the event, the President invited Wambui and her son to State House.
Photo/CourtesyHe promised to pay full school fee for Ngaruiya, and find his mother a good job. He also promised to build a house for the family. The family rejected the house upon its completion in 2019, saying the house was substandard and not a befitting gift from the President.
Photo/CourtesyIt has been eight years and now the family is not only suffering but their condition has worsened. They are homeless and without any source of income.
According to Nakuru widow she says that she was forced to make such decision by influential individuals who threatened her. They threatened to kill her and her entire family if she didn't comply. She added that she was almost kidnapped in 2019.
According to the State House Spokesman Kanze Dena, she said that the house was given to another needy family after Wambui rejected it. According to the family, it is also believed that Ngaruiya's sponsorship was withdrawn.
