Nairobi's nominated MP Maina Kamanda was on Tuesday left with an egg on the face after a section of supporters who had attended Azimio la Umoja rally in Karatina Nyeri county failed him.
This was after Kamanda, while engaging supporters, appreciated the fact that Mt Kenya region has been given two choices to make in terms of the deputy president post.
He informed them that Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua will be competing against Martha Karua in August. He then went ahead to pose a question to Nyeri residents on who they will elect between Gachagua and Karua.
However, Maina was met with a "Gachagua" response forcing him to mention Martha Karua's name as one way of evading further humiliations.
"We are lucky today we have a mother called Martha Karua and we have another person called Rigathi Gachagua, between Rigathi and Mama, who are you going to choose? (asked Kamanda) Rigathi Gachagua, (responded the crowd) ati nani?....Rigathi Gachagua (responded the crowd) chagua mama," stated Kamanda after a rather unpopular response.
On her part, Karua urged Nyeri residents to select their candidates keenly in August, saying those who have been lacking respect for their elders should be shown the door.
Karua said Raila is the country's political master and some of their competitors had undergone his class of politics hence should respect him.
"You cannot insult your elders who have thought you politics. Raila has been a teacher of politics and he has thought some of our competitors, heshima si utumwa, tuendeleze siasa safi," stated Karua.
She said they respect their competitors and do not consider them their enemies rather competitors since they all belong to one country called Kenya.
"Tunawatambua kama ndugu zetu, sisi wote ni wakenya but in each homestead, you have to single out those children who have leadership qualities and sent them out to seek for leadership," she added
