President William Ruto and other African leaders on Thursday, 15th December 2022, brought together dignitaries from Rwanda and DRC to solve out their differences. The East African community EAC leaders continued with peace talks over the troubled DRC in a meeting held on the sidelines of the US Africa Summit in Washington DC.

While speaking to the conflicting parties, Ruto affirmed that their interest as a region is to find lasting solution in DRC and cannot allow the situation to get worse. He further urged the warring parties to embrace dialogue even as they push for a lasting solution. Apart from William Ruto, in attendance were Yoweri Kaguta Museveni (Uganda), Paul Kagame (Rwanda), Samia Suluhu (Tanzania) and Evariste Ndayishimiye (Burundi).

President Joao Lourenco of Angola, the African Union's appointed mediator was as well present for the high-level meeting. The meeting was largely affected by diplomatic tiffs between president Paul Kagame Rwanda, and Felix Tshisekedi.

Fighting in eastern Congo between government and rebel group M23 heightened tensions with Rwanda accusing Tshisekedi of exploiting the violent crisis to delay elections.
