Governor ANNE WAIGURU nominated for prestigious award in Africa

Thursday, September 2, 2021 - Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Mumbi Waiguru is thrilled after being nominated for a prestigious African award.

In a tweet Thursday, Waiguru confirmed that she had been nominated as one of the 100 Most Powerful Women of African Descent, sharing the nomination with some of Africa's most powerful women leaders.

Among those on the same nomination list are the former President of Liberia, Sirleaf Johnson Ellen, as well as the current Governor of Kitui County, Madame Charity Ngilu.

The others on the list are Chief Justice Martha Koome, who has yet to complete a year since taking the leading post in the country.

“Honored to be named among the 100 most influential African women -2021. Share the space with phenomenal women from Africa like HE. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center for Women and Development, S.E @ Sahle-Work Zewde, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, inspires me to continue to boldly lead the way. Kudos to Charity Kaluki Ngilu, Lady Justice Martha Koome, Renee Ngamau and the other women who made the list. # 100WomenAfrica, ”Waiguru wrote on his Twitter account.

Waiguru's appointment has shocked many Kenyans as she is among the most corrupt women in Kenya.

Over the past 5 years, Waiguru has been mentioned negatively in a series of scandals, including the infamous National Youth Service (NYS) scandal and the theft of public money in Kirinyaga County.
