Reason Chinese Nationals Are Leaving Kenya in Huge Numbers

It is undoubtedly an undeniable fact that China and its citizens have been the greatest development partner not only to Kenya but also the entire Africa over the last few decades

Testament to this is the massive infrastructural projects that the Chinese government has orchestrated in Kenya for the last couple of years ranging from the Standard gauge railway, the ongoing construction of the Likoni floating bridge, roads and many more

So naturally, the country was thrown into panic mode yesterday when reports emerged in most media outlets showing Chinese nationals exiting the country in large numbers through the Jomo Kenyatta international airport (JKIA) with many speculating why the visitors were leaving Kenya amidst the Coronavirus pandemic that has continued to wrec havoc in many parts of the country

However, the government has further followed up on health CS Mutahi Kagwe's explanation to give a full account on the correct reason behind the exit of the visitors. Through the permanent secretary in the ministry of transport Dr Solomon Kitungu, the government clarified that the travellers were not leaving due to Coronavirus fears

As reported by The Standard, Kitungu explained that the correct account behind the exit was that the Chinese embassy was processing its nationals who are involved in essential services like construction services and that their flight had been planned earlier

"So this is something that had already been processed earlier. It is only that it is coming very close to August 1. But it had been processed, because many of them are involved in quite a number of construction companies and they had made a request and that had been accepted. It was an arranged flight for evacuation,” the PS said

The explanation behind the PS puts to bed the wrong speculations that they were leaving Kenya because of the surge in Coronavirus infections that had been witnessed in the country over the last couple of weeks
