The battle for Mombasa and Coast region as a whole has hit top gear with Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho moving with speed to consolidate his support base as he readies himself for a presidential battle in 2022.
Days since Deputy President William Ruto visited the region that is slowly becoming a key battle ground ahead of 2022, the Mombasa Governor has responded by traversing his small yet vote-rich county to water down the DP's influence.

While driving his bid for the top seat, Joho said that he has what it takes to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Nyali was hived off from Kisauni constituency ahead of the 2013 general election.
It was in Kisauni that Joho's political career started in 2007 when he was elected as area MP on an ODM ticket.
Before storming Nyali to make a political statement, Joho had visited Mvita- the heart of Mombasa- and Likoni constituencies.
And in all his political engagements, the ODM deputy party leader has taken Ruto head-on even as he questioned his development record.
The decision to tear into the DP's development record could be a systematic plan to reverse the gains he had made in Mombasa during his recent visit.
