“Why Are Kikuyu Hashtags Trending Daily?” Asks Ciku Muiruri as She Accuses Politicians of Fanning Tribalism

The renowned Kenyan journalist Ciku Muiruri has now come out guns blazing against Kenyan politicians whom she accused of fanning tribal animosity.

Ciku who vented her opinions through her official twitter handle claimed that both the two main political factions don’t deserve to be voted for by the citizens since they are the ones who have been propagating ethnic based political rhetoric.

Getting into some particulars Ciku took issue with a hash-tag baring the name of the Kikuyu community which has been trending for the past couple of days. She asks why only the name of one community has been trending on social media yet there are many other communities in Kenya too. “Is is only the Kikuyu votes that matter?” asked Ciku.

According to Ciku, the hash-tags may be a doing of the politicians who are advancing a very dangerous narrative.

With the 2022 general election coming in about eleven months time the Kenyan political arena is getting heated day by day as politicians from different sides lobby for support. Seemingly for the first time in history the Mount Kenya region has not shown a clear indication of fielding a candidate more so in the presidential contest.

This is unlike in the past four elections in which the region had very strong candidates. Perhaps this is the reason why all the key politicians with presidential ambitions maybe trying much to be the darling of the mountain towards 2022.

Ciku Muiruri maybe right about the hypocrisy of the politicians but she may be very wrong about the latest hash-tags. Don’t get me wrong, I believe that the latest hash-tags are signs that politicians are trying to court the region through their bloggers.

Anyone who has been in Kenya during political seasons knows that the vote rich Mount Kenya region is not a place to ignore for anyone with presidential ambitions.
